Demand for web access drives people to libraries
Some people go to the
library to borrow books, but others go to the Library daily
to do business. The library limits users to one hour a day
due to a limited number of computers.
A national study
released by the American Library Association on Wednesday
concluded that the Internet access is driving more people to
libraries across the country.
In 73 percent of the
communities studied, public libraries were the only source
of free public Internet access.
On a normal day a
library can receive about 350 visitors, about half of whom
use the computers.
The constant stream of computer users include job seekers,
travelers looking for directions and students doing
homework.
Some librarres added
computer labs to double the number of computers. The free
Internet is driving more young people to the library.
