101 ways to use your computer

Maintenance

It is very important to keep our computers well maintained.
To assist in keeping it run smoothly in the bingo world we should do a disk cleanup daily:
1. Go to start
2. Go to Programs
3. Go to Accessories
4. Go to System Tools
5. Go to Disk Cleanup
This can take a few minutes the first time you do it if you have not done it frequently in the past!

Clean Out the Inside of Your PC

Over time, dust and dirt will eventually build up inside your computer's case. This excess dust can negativley effect the computer's performance. Dust and grime can build up on fans, causing your inner PC parts to run hotter and less efficiently. Even if you think your PC is in a very clean environment, opening the box at least once a year and removing the dust can improve system performance. A can of compressed air will do the trick and can be bought at any store that sells electronics, including a Wal-Mart, Target or Best Buy. Just turn off your PC, open the case and spray out those dust bunnies. Be sure not to touch any of the electronic parts!

Deleting Temporary Files

Every time you access web sites on the Internet, temporary files are copied to your PC. These files contain information intended to make these web sites open faster on your next visit. They may also contain preferences you've entered on the site while visiting it.

All well and good so far. Over time, however, you can build up thousands of these files. Many of them may not be doing you much good, especially if they are from sites you've visited once never intending to go back.

Every once in a while, you should go in and clean these files out.

Here's how you do it:

1) In Internet Explorer click Tools, then click 'Internet Options'.

2) Select the 'General' tab and find the 'Temporary Files' section half way down the page.

3) Click the 'Delete Files' button and in the window that opens, check the box for 'Delete all offline content'.

4) Click OK and all the files are erased.

Print Screen

Have you ever noticed that obscure button on your keyboard labeled Print Screen/SysRq? Did you ever wonder what it does?

In the old days before Windows, that button would output screen contents to a printer. Today, it no longer performs that function. Now, pressing Alt-PrtScr stores an image of the screen to memory; it can then be pasted into a Word document or into a graphics program such as Windows' Paint utility by pressing Control-V. It's handy to use when you want to capture a screen error message, for instance, that you can save and send to someone for assistance.
